Ken`s long experience in martial arts began in 1974 when he took up karate,achieving 1st dan in 1978. Around 1980 an interest in japenese weapons lead him to study jo, bokken and laido with william coyle in Glasgow. By the time of the visit to Scotland of Morihiro Saito sensei, Ken was training mostly in aikido. Inspired by the teaching of Saito sensei he began to seek out instroctors of Iwama ryu but did not begin proper study untill 1990 under Gerry Hinton. Since then, Ken has trained many times with Morihiro Saito sensei and his son and succesor, Hitohiro Saito sensei. He was awarded 3rd dan ( Iwama Shin Shin Aikishurenkai) by Hitohiro in 2004. Foudil started aikido training in 2001 in Algeria and when he came to Edinburgh in 2002, he joined this club and was training mostly in Iwama aikido since then. Having gained lots of experience in Iwama style, he continues to seek more training. Currently, Foudil holds 1 Kyu, and is aiming for 1st Dan in the near future.
